Description

This position has a target start date of Summer 2027.

Sargent & Lundy is one of the largest and most experienced power industry engineering and consulting firms. This intern position is to support the continued growth of the Sargent & Lundy Consulting group, particularly in renewable energy, battery energy storage, dispatchable gas generation, and utility planning / advisory practice areas.

 

This position will give you the opportunity to:

  • Collaborate with members of the Consulting Business Group and expand your academic background in Engineering.
  • Support project teams with due diligence of power generation projects, power system planning projects, and feasibility studies.
  • Owner’s engineering to support development and execution of utility-scale solar, wind, battery energy storage, thermal, and other projects
  • Track and evaluate project activities and progress, and associated data.
  • Prepare technical reports and other Consulting deliverables, including conceptual designs and specifications.
  • Provide technical support to clients.
  • Assist in the preparation of Consulting proposals, marketing materials, technical presentations, and white papers.

Qualifications

Essential skills and experience:

  • Pursuing either a Master's or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with at least six semesters or equivalent quarters completed at an accredited university.
  • Experience and/or coursework in AC power systems, renewable energy, battery energy storage, or in the power industry with basic understanding of power generation, substation, and transmission in the U.S. Bulk Electric System.
  • Minimum overall GPA of at least 3.2.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office with proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint and Word, with high attention to detail.

Valued but not required skills and experience:

  • Related internship or co-op experiences.

  • You are expected to take engineering problems from issue to solution using data and modern tools such as automation and AI to improve workflows, reduce rework, and deliver cost-effective designs.
  • Many engineers in these roles build or use automation to create calculations, summarize technical documents, or draft design documentation, including appropriate use of agentic AI tools, with strong engineering judgment and verification of results.
  • Programming or scripting (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate calculations, design checks, reporting, or data transformation is valued but not required.
  • We also value additional learning, such as a minor, certificate, or other training in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields that helps you apply automation or agentic AI to real engineering problems.

Compensation Range

$62,998 - $90,586
