Description

This position is expected to be a field assignment, meaning travel is required. The location of the assignment can vary depending on the job and/or client. We do offer per diem for those that qualify.

 

Position Overview:

Significant growth in Sargent & Lundy’s (S&L) business over the past few years has driven the need to increase focus and investment in S&L’s Construction Management team. This team works closely with our external clients to handle every detail of their needs, as well as with our internal teams to make the projects run as seamlessly as possible.

 

The primary responsibility is to provide Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) and Distributed Control System (DCS) related construction and commissioning management guidance and support to Client management during the construction, commissioning, and initial operation of power projects.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Review instrument/component calibrations, perform functional testing of plant process systems, perform I/O loop checks, and have a detailed understanding of power plant process control philosophies 
  • Perform general and technical consulting for I&C, electrical technicians, and construction personnel. 
  • Assisted in facilitating client–owner/regulator communications. 
  • Coordinate issues between engineering and construction, as required, to support project activities 
  • Review and advise on corrective action issues, including engineering, construction, and commissioning deficiencies 
  • Support preparation of detailed startup plans required for functional testing of process systems 
  • Support preparation of system turnover packages in accordance with project procedures, including reviewing system testing documentation 
  • Oversee initial configuration and energization of control system equipment, including hardware, software, network establishment, datalink configuration, etc. 
  • Detailed understanding and ability to perform logic verification and testing, graphic verification, alarm verification and management, and process control tuning 
  • Detailed understanding of power plant network architecture and power plant control systems including Emerson Ovation, Siemens T3000, ABB 800xA, Allen Bradley Control Logix, and MHI/GE/Siemens/Alstom turbine control systems 
  • Ensure the installed progress and work product are in line with drawings, specifications and contractual requirements.  Highlight any variances or changes in the work placement. 
  • Track work progress and highlight key activity development in daily reports.  
  • Support our partners and project stakeholders at each project are communicating early and often when problems arise and be able to find creative solutions to project challenges.

Essential skills and experience:

  • Experience setting up, commissioning, and operating various DCS systems. 
  • Ability and willingness to work at a project site location, domestically or internationally. 
  • Success working with multi-cultural and multi-disciplined teams. 
  • 10 or more years applicable experience, including combined cycle (gas turbine), coal and/or nuclear power plant construction, commissioning and initial power plant operation.  
  • Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills.  
  • Demonstrated Client relationship-building experience. 
  • Familiarity with industry regulations, industry codes & standards, and best practices related to power plant electrical operations, maintenance, and safety. 
  • Positive attitude and personality; ability to build positive relationships.

Compensation Range

$84,762 - $129,498
