Description

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a BIM Project Lead to support day-to-day model-based delivery on active projects under the oversight of a BIM Manager. The BIM Lead is responsible for developing, issuing, and executing the project BIM Execution Plan (BEP), coordinating with project managers and discipline leads, and ensuring model quality, coordination, and information delivery requirements are met.

This role is primarily project facing and delivery focused, translating standards into practical execution while supporting model reviews, issue resolution, and consistent collaboration practices across the project team.

Project BIM Planning and Execution

  • Develop, issue, and maintain the project BIM Execution Plan (BEP) and associated workflows, ensuring alignment with standards and project specific requirements.
  • Lead BEP development with project stakeholders, including PMs, discipline leads, and IT as needed; ensure the BEP clearly defines scope, roles, responsibilities, deliverables, review cycles, coordination approach, information requirements, and tool workflows.
  • Execute the BEP through day-to-day leadership, ensuring adoption across disciplines and offices, and verifying the team is following agreed conventions and deliverable expectations.
  • Support project kickoff and BIM startup activities, including model setup coordination, access needs, permissions requests, and collaboration workflow readiness in partnership with the PM, discipline leads, and IT.
  • Maintain short interval look ahead planning for BIM coordination and deliverables, ensuring model deliverables and review cycles remain on track.
  • Coordinate day to day BIM activities across disciplines, offices, and external partners as required to support project execution.

Model Coordination and Issue Management

  • Lead multi discipline model federation and coordination, including clash detection, issue tracking, prioritization, and resolution planning with discipline leads.
  • Facilitate coordination meetings, track actions, and drive closure of model-based issues, including documenting decisions and supporting timely resolution.
  • Prepare models for internal model reviews and external client facing reviews, ensuring correct model versions are captured and archived prior to formal reviews when required by the project.
  • Support expectation alignment on model review scope, outcomes, and follow up actions with project leadership and client stakeholders as applicable.

Model Quality and Deliverable Support

  • Perform routine model quality and model health checks, including naming conventions, LOD / LOI compliance, attribute completeness, and data quality validation aligned to the BEP and project standards.
  • Validate model deliverables and extracted outputs against project requirements, including exchange formats and handover expectations where applicable (IFC, COBie, client schemas, exports).
  • Coordinate with discipline teams to ensure model content is suitable for downstream uses, including drawings, quantity support, constructability coordination, and turnover as applicable.
  • Support model closeout tasks at the project level, including deliverable packaging, coordination of archives, and documentation of final model status per the project plan.

Tools and Collaboration Platforms

  • Support daily operation of project collaboration platforms and coordination tools (e.g., Autodesk Construction Cloud/BIM 360, Navisworks, SmartPlant SPF/SDx where applicable), including issue workflows, permissions requests, and adherence to project conventions.
  • Coordinate with IT and the NPG BIM Manager to resolve tool access issues, performance concerns, and environment support needs impacting project execution.
  • Implement approved project level standardized checks or automation as provided by the NPG BIM Manager or enablement resources, focusing on practical execution and repeatability.

Team Support and Training

  • Coach discipline users in day-to-day BIM workflows, coordination expectations, and collaboration best practices to support adoption and consistency.
  • Support onboarding of new project team members into project BIM workflows, including access requests, tool setup guidance, and basic standards orientation.
  • Identify workflow pain points, recurring quality issues, and training gaps; escalate trends and recommendations to the BIM Manager.

Client, Partner, and Vendor Support

  • Support client and partner coordination as requested by the PM and BIM Manager, including BEP alignment, model review preparation, standards alignment, and coordination of external model inputs.
  • Assist with responses to client information requirements as needed by providing project level inputs, deliverable examples, and execution status updates.

This position allows for a hybrid work schedule.

Essential skills and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, Geomatics, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related technical field preferred; an equivalent combination of technical education, BIM/VDC training, and relevant project experience will be considered.
  • 5–10 years of progressive BIM experience in multi discipline A/E and/or EPC environments, with direct project execution responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and issuing BIM Execution Plans (BEPs) for projects and leading execution of those plans with multi discipline teams.
  • Demonstrated experience in BIM coordination, model federation, issue tracking, and project deliverable support.
  • Strong working knowledge of Revit and Navisworks, with experience in Hexagon/SmartPlant toolsets (e.g., S3D, SDx/SPF) and CDE/BIM collaboration platforms such as Autodesk Construction Cloud/BIM 360; demonstrated experience with model exchange workflows across multiple authoring tools.
  • Experience performing model checks and supporting model deliverables with discipline teams.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with project teams, facilitate coordination discussions, and drive action closure across multiple disciplines.
  • Comfort working in an IT partnered environment, including access requests, permissions workflows, and basic troubleshooting coordination.

Valued but not required experience:

  • Certifications such as Autodesk Certified Professional (Revit) or equivalent; Intergraph SmartPlant; CM BIM (AGC) a plus.
  • Experience supporting model reviews with clients, including version control, archive practices, and issue follow up tracking.

  • Experience with information deliverables and data exchange workflows (IFC, COBie, client schemas, exports).
  • Experience working on power, industrial, or highly regulated projects with complex governance expectations.

Physical / Other Requirements

  • Extended screen time typical of model-based coordination, issue management, and remote collaboration.
