Description

Sargent & Lundy is a global leader in power and energy consulting, where innovation meets integrity, diversity, and a commitment to quality. Our distinctive capabilities provide domestic and international clients and partners with a thoroughly reliable source of comprehensive expertise. Sargent & Lundy offers challenge, flexibility, competitive salaries and benefits.

We are currently seeking a driven, detail-oriented professional ready to make an impact as a Business Analyst focused on our ERP platforms. This position will be the vital link between our business stakeholders and our ERP product and engineering teams. In particular, this role will be a key contributor to the implementation and rollout of our new ERP platform—supporting solution design, configuration, testing, data readiness, and change management activities. Our Business Analyst will ensure seamless communication and streamline processes across our ERP ecosystem, driving success across the board.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with business representatives to understand and optimize ERP-related business needs using frameworks to plan for success (e.g., SWOT, BABOK, etc.).
  • Act as a liaison between functional stakeholders and the ERP platform/engineering teams to ensure requirements are clearly documented and technically feasible.
  • Lead and document current-state process assessments across impacted functional areas (e.g., Finance, HR, Supply Chain), including process maps, pain points, control gaps, and data dependencies.
  • Design future-state ERP-enabled business processes and operating models that align with industry and platform best practices, while balancing standardization with necessary localization.
  • Define user stories, process flows, and acceptance criteria for ERP enhancements, integrations, reports, and configuration changes; partner with delivery teams and business sponsors to effectively prioritize deliverables, features, and functionality which tie back to business outcomes.
  • Perform hands-on configuration and light engineering work within the ERP platform (e.g., business processes, rules/validations, security roles, calculated fields, and data mappings) in collaboration with the technical team.
  • Support ERP integrations by working with engineers on interface requirements, data mapping, error handling, and reconciliation processes between the ERP and surrounding systems.
  • Support data migration activities by defining data requirements, contributing to mapping from legacy systems to the new platform, reviewing data quality, and validating migrated data in testing cycles.
  • Assist with testing coordination and compiling results, including system integration testing, regression testing, cutover rehearsals, and user acceptance testing for ERP-related changes.
  • Refine processes for gathering, managing, and executing the ERP product backlog, ensuring appropriate documentation, traceability, and governance.
  • Understand and report key metrics that are meaningful to the business and indicate the health and effectiveness of ERP-enabled processes and the success of the migration.
  • Identify risks and issues associated with ERP initiatives and communicate them to those who can provide mitigation, tracking them through resolution, with specific focus on data, process, integration, and cutover risks.
  • Spearhead key change management aspects across ERP products in partnership with global business process owners to drive engagement, awareness, and adoption of new capabilities, including training, communication, and support plans for users transitioning from legacy systems to the new platform.

This position offers the flexibility of a hybrid schedule with the expectation of 3 days per week in our downtown Chicago office, and 2 days remote from home.

Qualifications

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, business management, engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of previous business analyst experience, with significant focus on ERP systems (Finance, HCM, Supply Chain, or similar domains).
  • Direct experience as a business analyst on one or more ERP implementation or migration programs, including current/future state process design, data migration, and cutover planning.
  • Hands-on experience working on an ERP platform, including configuration or other technical/engineering work on the application. Workday experience is strongly preferred (e.g., Workday Financials, HCM, integrations, or reporting).
  • Demonstrated ability to use frameworks (SWOT, BABOK, etc.) to define and solve business needs, as well as to assess legacy processes and translate them into future-state best practice designs.
  • Self-motivation and the ability to work independently.
  • Commitment to problem solving and providing excellent customer service.
  • Highly analytical, with strong critical thinking and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Questioning attitude with a strong bias toward challenging the status quo.
  • Flexibility and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools.
  • Ability to simplify and standardize complex concepts and/or processes.
  • Exposure to project management concepts.
  • Knowledge of Agile development methodologies and working with product backlogs, sprints, and iterative delivery.
  • IIBA Certification is a plus
