Description

As a Physical Project Design you will review, supervise, and provide technical guidance in the production of design deliverables. Works with management in the development and establishment of project scopes, budgets and schedules. Responsible for staff assignments, evaluations, and career development for assigned personnel on one large or several small projects. Responsible for developing, monitoring, and controlling project costs and schedules.

 

 

Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Proficient in company unique design/drafting tools as
    applicable to the business group and discipline. Provides
    guidance to others in the use of company design/drafting
    tools and client-specific design tools. Identifies
    opportunities for design tool enhancements. Coordinates
    implementation of enhancements.
  • Reviews and supervises the production of design
    deliverables. Provides technical guidance in applicable
    design processes. Develops cost-effective design
    approaches for multiple projects. Provides leadership in
    problem resolution. Interfaces with other disciplines to
    obtain required design inputs and ensures adequacy of
    input for an integrated design.
  • Provides technical guidance to others in the preparation
    and review of calculations associated with applicable
    design processes.
  • Implements work plan requirements within budget and
    schedule using the most efficient methods. Provides
    guidance to the project team in attaining budget and
    schedule. Recognizes priorities and manages
    accordingly. Works with management to establish
    budgets and schedules for multiple projects.
  • Directs efforts of assigned project team(s). Delegates and
    monitors the work of assigned staff on technical matters
    pertinent to project assignments. Typically allocates staff
    for large or several small projects. Provides performance
    feedback as a primary evaluator. Handles performance
    and personnel issues for assigned staff. Provides
    guidance to staff on personnel issues.
  • Provides technical guidance to peers and staff. Mentors
    new employees and assigned staff. Considers and
    evaluates training recommendations. Provides in-house
    technical training to keep staff current with new
    developments in design technology.
    Performs technical review of project team's comments on
    vendor design deliverables (ensuring compliance with
    specifications) and coordinates the incorporation of such
    comments. Consolidates and resolves project team
    comments.
  • In a lead role, conducts field walkdowns and gathers data
    at client facilities. Interfaces with clients and contractors
    to discuss walkdown issues. Performs constructability
    walkdowns with clients and contractors.
  • Identifies applicable codes and standards for team use.
    Provides guidance in applying codes and standards.
    Participates actively in the company's quality system in
    developing enhancements to standards and processes for
    company use. Identifies applicable standards for technical
    tasks. Maintains and utilizes working knowledge of
    design standards and practices. Ensures that designs
    conform to codes and standards. Keeps current with
    changes to industry codes and standards.
  • Follows project procedures for file management.
  • Performs other related duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications

This position requires a minimum of 15 years of physical design experience. Qualifications also include the following:

  • An Associates Degree in Drafting or high school diploma and equivalent technical experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of computer drafting tools (i.e. AutoCAD and/or MicroStation).
  • Ability to multi-task from project to project.
  • Ability to visualize parts in 3D without the aid of a computer.

Valued Knowledge/Skills:

  • An Associates Degree in Computer Aided Design.
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology, including the ability to relate various equipment to a technical design.

Compensation Range

$92,270.00 - $140,380.00
