Description

Sargent & Lundy is a leading consulting engineering firm specializing in the power and energy sectors. Since 1891, we have provided comprehensive engineering, design, and consulting services for both traditional and renewable power generation, grid modernization, nuclear power, and beyond. Our mission is to help clients achieve their energy goals effectively by leveraging advanced technologies and adopting sustainable practices.

Role Overview

We are seeking a driven, detail-oriented Business Analyst to serve as the vital link between business stakeholders and delivery teams. You will translate business outcomes into clear requirements, streamline processes, and help deliver solutions that create measurable value. If you’re ready to elevate strategy execution and deliver exceptional results, we’d love to hear from you.

We do not sponsor employees for work authorization in the U.S. for this position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to clarify outcomes, assess current state, and identify improvement opportunities using established frameworks (e.g., SWOT, BABOK).
  • Build trusted relationships with business and technical stakeholders at multiple levels; act as a credible partner who balances near-term needs with long-term strategy.
  • Establish a shared understanding of value, success criteria, and decision rights; document RACI and ensure clear ownership across teams.
  • Facilitate workshops and working sessions across cross-functional groups to elicit requirements, align on priorities, and remove ambiguity.
  • Translate outcomes into user stories, acceptance criteria, and process maps; partner with product owners to prioritize the backlog against business value.
  • Co-create roadmaps and release plans with product owners and stakeholders; align scope to measurable outcomes and organizational priorities.
  • Facilitate structured tradeoff conversations (value, cost, risk, timeline) and drive clear, timely decisions with accountable owners.
  • Maintain a consistent feedback loop (demos, prototypes, pilots) to validate assumptions quickly and incorporate stakeholder input.
  • Coordinate test planning and UAT; compile results, track defects, and confirm acceptance against defined success criteria.
  • Define and refine processes for backlog grooming, story readiness, and release planning to improve delivery flow and predictability.
  • Establish and report business-meaningful metrics (e.g., value realization, adoption, cycle time, defect escape rate) to inform decisions.
  • Identify delivery risks and dependencies early; drive mitigation plans with accountable owners and transparent stakeholder communication.
  • Lead change management activities (communications, training inputs, stakeholder readiness) with global process owners to drive adoption and measurable outcomes.

This position offers the flexibility of a hybrid schedule with the expectation of 3 days per week in our downtown Chicago office, and 2 days remote from home.

Qualifications

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, business, or a related field.
  • 3–5 years as a Business Analyst (or similar role) in an agile or hybrid delivery environment.
  • Demonstrated use of BA frameworks and techniques (e.g., BABOK-aligned elicitation, SWOT, process mapping, user stories, acceptance criteria) to solve real business problems.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills; able to simplify complex concepts and synthesize clear recommendations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication; skilled at framing tradeoffs and facilitating consensus.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams); exposure to workflow or requirements tools (e.g., Asana, Azure DevOps, Jira) is helpful.
  • Bias for action, customer-centric mindset, and a questioning attitude that constructively challenges the status quo.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment and work effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Exposure to project management concepts and practices; familiarity with SDLC and Agile delivery (Scrum/Kanban).
  • Experience coordinating UAT, writing test cases, and working with QA practices.
  • Experience defining and tracking product or process metrics and KPIs.
  • IIBA certification (ECBA, CCBA, or CBAP) or equivalent BA training.
  •
