Sargent and Lundy is currently hiring an Electrical Cost Estimator on a Full-time, Temporary basis. 

Responsibilities

Duties/responsibilities include the following:

  • Develop project specific estimates based on project plans and schedules.
  • Prepare and maintain a Basis of Estimate (BOE) for each project.
  • Perform estimate benchmarking and compile project estimates prior to the internal and external review.
  • Develop the estimate plan and communicate related information.
  • Lead reviews of project estimates with the appropriate engineering disciplines.
  • Ensure that estimates are consistent with client common processes and quality standards and accurately reflect project staffing requirements.
  • Analyze project documentation in order to scope, organize, and deliver equipment, material, and labor cost estimates.
  • Prepare and develop bills of material from design engineering drawings.
  • Present project estimates to project management teams.
  • Establish craft labor rates and productivity and location factors, for estimating purposes.
  • Consult with clients, vendors, engineering personnel, or construction contractors, to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.

Qualifications

Essential skills and experience:

  • Experience with Aspen Capital Cost Estimator (ACCE) required.
  • Instrumentation & Electrical (I&E) experience is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of estimating types (Class 1 to 5), methodologies and techniques.  Also known as a stage-gate process (CVP).
  • Experience with lump sum and reimbursable project estimates in the oil and gas industry. 
  • Understanding of the following basic engineering drawings: General Arrangement, Single Line, and P&ID.
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and Word.
  • Experience preparing cost and/or quantity estimates for oil refineries, -fossil, nuclear power plants or heavy industrial plants.
  • Analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Project scheduling experience.
  • Works well in a team environment.
  • Experience with cost estimating tools and database applications.
  • Knowledge of resources for estimating craft labor rates, man-hours, labor productivity, and commodity pricing.

Valued but not required skills and experience:

  • Power plant experience a plus.
  • Knowledge of IPA project benchmarking and philosophies.
  • Experience using Timberline Cost Estimating Software a plus.
