Description

  • Fire protection design/specification development for fire suppression systems, fire detection and alarm systems, water supply/distribution systems, and life safety issues
  • Task management activities associated with modifications involving fire suppression systems, and alarm systems and water supply/distribution systems 
  • Reviews of modifications to ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards, and regulations
  • Review design documents, construction documents, submittals prepared by others for compliance with applicable fire protection codes and standards
  • This position will offer you the ability to directly apply your knowledge of probabilistic risk assessment (PRA) methods to support multiple nuclear utility clients.
  • You will be preparing PRA calculations, evaluations, and technical reports to support client risk-informed engineering projects and programs.
  • You will assist in the development of proposals and cost estimates for the PRA scope of risk-informed projects.
  • You will be responsible for presenting PRA project results to client management or integrated decision-making panels.
  • There is the potential for you to travel to client and vendor offices for meetings and to plant site locations for meetings and field verification of designs.

S&L is heavily involved in the design and licensing of next generation nuclear plants including multiple small modular reactor (SMR) designs and these responsibilities also include:

  • Development of a conceptual fire protection strategies/Fire Protection System Design Documents
  • Development of the Fire Hazards Analysis
  • Development of Internal Fires Risk Evaluation
  • Interpretation/Compliance with Life Safety Codes
  • Development of Safety Analysis Reports

 

Qualifications

Essential skills and experience:

  • This position requires a BS in engineering from an ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission-approved program
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience including:
    • Fire detection and alarm systems
    • Fire suppression systems
    • Hydraulic sprinkler design and layout analysis programs
  • Minimum of 12 years of experience developing nuclear power industry PRA analyses
  • Assignments require the preparation of calculations and reports, and excellent technical report writing skills are essential
  • Strong interest in numerical computations and problem solving
  • Proficiency with industry PRA software
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Valued but not required skills and experience:

  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, and designation as an Engineer in Training
  • PE license
  • Experience in performing PRA analyses in support of surveillance frequency control programs (SFCP)
  • Experience in performing categorization of systems in support of 10CFR50.69 programs
  • Fire PRA, Seismic PRA, and other external event PRA model development and application experience
  • Post fire or aircraft impact safe-shutdown analysis
  • Interest and experience with thermal-hydraulic software to support PRA success criteria or design-basis analysis (e.g. MAAP, GOTHIC, RELAP)

$116,620.00 - $179,890.00
