Description

Sargent & Lundy’s Government Services Division provides cutting-edge engineering design and consulting support to the management and operating contractors for US Department of Energy (DOE) sites and national laboratories. Specifically, we support the DOE Environmental Management Directorate as well as the National Nuclear Security Administration laboratories and sites. What does this mean? You can be a part of multi-discipline design teams supporting projects cleaning up the environmental damage associated with the legacy nuclear weapons production complex and/or preserving our country’s nuclear deterrent. Sargent & Lundy’s personnel design facilities, systems, and equipment that treat, store, and dispose of nuclear waste as well as systems that safely handle and process nuclear material. Sargent and Lundy (S&L) is looking for an individual who is capable of handling various roles in the project management field including cost estimating, project engineering, and scheduling and project controls.

 

As a Cost Estimator, you will be assigned to work on project activities associated with the following:

 

  • Perform material quantity take-offs, labor pricing, and work with vendors to obtain material and equipment costing to support the development of construction cost estimates (rough-order-magnitude; conceptual; construction; fair-cost)
  • Understand and apply appropriate mark-ups and productivity factors as required
  • Organize and assemble construction cost estimates
  • Coordinate information flow and schedules with project team members to complete estimates on time
  • Organize and input cost and quantity information into existing Excel database
  • Prepare cash flow, escalation, and interest calculations for estimates
  • Develop Estimate Basis documents
  • Coordinate the development of design drawings, engineering analyses, and construction specifications
  • Author and lead the development of engineering equipment lists and engineering studies and reports
  • Work with SmartPlant Foundation (client document system)
  • Conduct internal and external tracking, management, and reporting of project performance and schedule progress
  • Lead efforts to ensure projects are completed satisfactorily, on time, and within budget
  • Implement project controls and project management tools and methodology
  • Perform CPI/SPI calculations using earned value principles
  • Monitor and forecast budgets in accordance with a work breakdown structure (WBS) accounting system
  • On an ongoing basis, develop and maintain detailed project schedules, including resource loading labor hours to schedule activities
  • Communicate variances against monthly work plan projections, monitor performances against the plan, and develop recovery plans when applicable

Qualifications

Must be a U.S. Citizen; Dual citizenship with a country other than the U.S. does not qualify.

 

Essential skills and experience:

  • Must be able to pass a U.S. Government security clearance check
  • Construction Management, Engineering, or Business Degree
  • A minimum of 15 years of relevant work experience
  • Must understand estimating functions from the conceptual design phase through the construction phase of a project
  • Experience with engineering or construction oversight
  • Skilled with Excel software and building moderately-complex spreadsheets
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with teamwork skills
  • Familiarity with quality assurance programs (such as NQA-1)
  • Related engineering work experience, which includes project controls, project planning, project scheduling, and earned value performance

Valued but not required skills and experience:

  • Familiarity with Primavera P6

Salary Range

$162,000 - $193,000
