Description

Project teams in our Energy & Industrial Group (EIG) support industry-leading projects in power generation, plant design, environmental compliance, mid/downstream oil & gas, and multi-disciplined industrial projects.  We’re leading efforts to decarbonize the industry by utilizing advanced technologies in renewable energy, carbon capture, and hydrogen power.  Our EIG teams perform detailed engineering services for photovoltaic (PV) solar projects and the integration of solar and energy storage.  We’re the industry leader in carbon capture technologies with experience executing pilot-scale to commercial-scale projects for utilities, industrial plants, and direct air capture.  We provide engineering services for green hydrogen production via electrolysis using solar, wind, hydro, and nuclear power sources and we support on-site usage in power generation, fuel cells, and fueling stations.

 

The position will offer you the opportunity to expand your knowledge of engineering and environmental systems, and to work and lead multi-disciplined project teams to:

  • Evaluate and review the design of carbon capture projects for the energy and industrial markets with a special focus on process design and performance
  • Analyze technical issues, and oversee the preparation of system specification data, mass and heat balances, and presentations of findings to clients and peers.
  • Independently verify the design of vendor-supplied equipment.
  • Review and contribute to complex technical reports and presentations of findings to clients and peers.
  • Support the Carbon Capture Development team in providing consistency and oversight across S&L’s carbon capture projects.
  • Engage in project development activities for privately and publicly funded carbon capture projects, including consulting on strategy both internally and externally, developing proposals, and coordinating with other project participants.
  • The position offers the opportunity to travel to client offices and project site locations for project reviews.

As a member of the Carbon Capture Development team, you will be responsible for:

  • Establishing work priorities on a daily basis for multiple projects and responding to requests from your supervisor and project managers.
  • Maintaining and enhancing your knowledge and understanding of industry standards and specifications, system design, and new technology developments.Developing your career via peer-learning and knowledge sharing with other engineers and participating in S&L’s System of Processes and our associated “Communities of Practice.”
  • Participating in industry code committees and conferences.

Qualifications

We do not sponsor employees for work authorization in the U.S. for this position.

 

Essential skills and experience:

  • This position requires a BS Chemical Engineering from an ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission-approved program with a strong academic background.
  • Ten or more years of experience in carbon capture or a related field of power or industrial sectors.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to interact and multitask with project team members and clients
  • Ability to work on multiple projects at the same time and coordinate various inputs between the internal engineering team and clients.
  • Ability to provide guidance to younger staff members.

Valued but not required skills and experience:

  • Professional Engineer or successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, and designation as an Engineer-in-Training.
  • Familiarity with major federal environmental regulatory programs such as the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act.
